Meet The New Emma Frost - While there was no mention of X-Men in Comic-Con’s Hall H this year, Marvel Studios seems to be getting closer to forming its team of Mutants. Sources tell Deadline that Samara Weaving is the choice to play Emma Frost in the upcoming X-Men movie. Historic NYC Studio Shuffle - Shadowbox Studios has taken on management of New York's Kaufman Astoria Studios in New York, the 500,000 square-foot campus in Astoria, Queens, where Goodfellas, Sesame Street and countless other series and films have been produced. Shadowbox is stepping in to run the site's 11 soundstages and 325,000 square-feet of office and production support space after a tumultuous period. If they ever create a Mount Rushmore-style tribute to the greatest comedians in American history, Mel Brooks’ face would surely be carved in rock. Hand a chisel to Judd Apatow and he’d start the work.
“[Mel’s] the reason why so many of us went into comedy because he was a master at directing, writing, producing, as a performer, as a standup,” Apatow tells Deadline. “He gave us all hope that you could do this kind of bold work.”

🕯️ Vincent Pastore, known for playing mobsters in film and TV, most notably Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos, has died. He was 80. The veteran actor was found dead in his Bronx residence today, Aug. 1, by a neighbor. The death is believed to be from natural causes and is not being investigated by the medical examiner. 🕯️ Scott Hylands, the actor known for playing Detective Kevin “OB” O’Brien in Night Heat, has died. He was 83. 🕯️ Nirmal Purja, the British-Nepali mountaineer whose renowned career was featured in the 2021 Netflix documentary 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible, died in an avalanche on Broad Peak in Pakistan on Thursday, July 30, his company has confirmed. He was 43. 🕯️ Richard L. O’Connor, an Emmy-winning TV producer and a studio executive in charge of production on such films as On Golden Pond, The Muppet Movie and Raise The Titanic, died July 22 in Palm Desert. He was 96. 🕯️ Natalia Dontcheva, the Bulgarian actress who starred in the French version of Doc Martin on TF1, has died. She was 56.
