CHRISTOPHER NOLAN EPIC NOTCHES BEST LIVE-ACTION OPENING OF 2026 & DIRECTOR'S BEST EVER WORLDWIDE |
Christopher Nolan's epic The Odyssey had a great hold on Saturday of $41.66M, down just 17% from Friday plus previews, boosting its overall weekend estimate to $124.5M. The tally breaks a slew of records, including the best domestic start YTD for a movie, the best opening for Matt Damon, record opening for a Universal R-rated movie, Nolan’s third best debut, as well as now the fourth best R-rated opening ever.

A combination of the sixth graphic novel in the Heartstopper series and Alice Oseman’s Nick and Charlie novella, the almost two-hour film traces more struggles and maturity shown in the boys’ bond.

🕯️ Joe Caldwell, a writer on the original 1960s gothic cult-hit daytime TV series Dark Shadows who co-created the show’s signature vampire character Barnabas Collins, died Monday, July 13, following a stroke. He was 97. 🕯️ Jennifer Finch, the powerhouse bassist for L7 during the band’s creative peak in the 1990s, has died. That, according to her Instagram account. She was 59. 🕯️ Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon, the early rock & roller who scored big, joyful radio hits with, among others, 1959’s “Tallahassee Lassie” and 1962’s “Palisades Park,” died July 17 at a California hospice facility following a brief battle with cancer.
