Hi everyone,
Eater turned 20 this week, and we celebrated in a major way, launching a series of stories that look back at two decades of food trends and how far we've come, videos featuring top-tier chefs, and a buzzy trailer that teases all that's still to come, including a limited-edition print magazine, a consumer event in New York City in September, and special collaborations with some of our favorite restaurants across the country.
I've been looking forward to this big milestone for a while now — partially because I think big brand moments are worth acknowledging, but also because I think the time is right to reflect on the immense ways food and dining culture have changed.
But the real reason I've been wanting to make a big deal out of this anniversary is because it's a chance to celebrate our brilliant team. You get this newsletter from me biweekly, but it takes a village to report and write and copy edit the stories you read, shoot and edit the videos you watch, brainstorm and design the memes you share, and compile the maps you scour to decide where to eat.
I don't often get to tell the world about the longtime Eater staffers, many of whom have worked here for more than 10 years and seen the brand through countless iterations. Or the social media managers who spot fun online trends and figure out how Eater should be part of the conversation. Or the video editors who dig through hours and hours of archival footage to showcase the best of the past 20 years. Or the editors who know the ins and outs of their local restaurants, and love nothing more than to show off the most exciting parts of their city's culinary scene.
Our anniversary coverage is a love letter to our readers, our viewers, our followers, our app users — particularly those who, like us, treat dining out like it's their job. But it's also an homage to every person who has ever contributed to Eater, and the strong legacy they've helped build.
So whether you've been following our coverage for some time, you've worked with us in some way, or you're relatively new to the Eater universe, thank you for being integral to the past 20 years — and here's hoping you'll stick around for at least 20 more.
Below, you'll find some of my favorite reads from the past two weeks. If you liked this email, please forward it to a friend or encourage them to sign up here.
