Today, the macro-side tells use that there's some cautious optimism about the easing of some auto tariffs. This comes as General Motors (GM) reported earnings. Once again, markets are under the ongoing ping-pong style approach to trade policy by the Trump Administration.

General Motors topped profit expectations but pulled its 2025 guidance and suspended $4 billion in share buybacks. You get three guesses why, and the first two don't count.

Ongoing tariff uncertainty. This happened while names like American Airlines (AAL) and Skechers (SKX) withdrew their forecasts amid trade tensions. This highlights how the economic impact of tariffs is just beginning to filter through corporate America.

Mark Carney, former central banker, will become Canada's Prime Minister after his victory in Monday's election. This election marks a major shift in Canada's relationship with the United States amid changing trade dynamics.

Finally, gold prices dropped as trade war fears eased slightly. Investors are shifting away from safe-haven assets following signs of potential trade negotiation progress.

The real opportunity today isn't in the headlines — it's in how traders are positioning underneath them.
