Tom Cruise is perhaps the biggest supporter of the big screen experience in Hollywood, and so he wasn't going to miss CinemaCon again. In the past few years, Cruise has sent video messages while shooting Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning and Final Reckoning. But he flashed his megawatt smile in person on Thursday as he shared footage from the latter film. Before that, Cruise asked the room to take a moment and remember his friend and Top Gun co-star Val Kilmer, who died three days ago.
Marvel, meanewhile, unleashed the Thunderbolts* squad, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, David Harbour, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell and Hannah John-Kamen. Pugh shared that the “new team of glorious misfits” had “such a special time making the movie. … I got to jump off the second-tallest building in the world — that was pretty f*cking cool.”
Disney showed a quick shot of footage from James Cameron's Avatar: Fire and Ash. In a taped message before Zoe Saldaña took the stage at the Las Vegas confab, Cameron said “I’m in New Zealand finishing up" the film. He continued, "I hope this film can provide a shot in the arm of theater owners because we are still struggling with the one-two punch of the pandemic and streaming."
