There has been a change of plans for the FBI spinoff with a CIA twist in the works at CBS. Originally announced as a planted spinoff, the project, tentatively titled FBI: CIA — a title we hear is expected to change — was to be introduced in an episode of the mothership series this spring serving as a backdoor pilot. According to sources, that is no longer happening. But the new spinoff could still join the mothership on the 2025-2026 schedule with a straight-to-series order. Casting negotiations for the male lead continue, we hear. (So far, FBI is the only series from the procedural franchise set for next season after securing a three-year renewal last spring; offshoots FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International are coming to an end in May.) Written by Dick Wolf, FBI: Most Wanted showrunner David Hudgins, Nicole Perlman and former CIA officer David Chasteen, the proposed offshoot centers on a dedicated, strait-laced FBI agent and a street-smart CIA agent who are part of a new, clandestine task force charged with solving and preventing domestic terrorism in and around New York City. >>>Original Plans |

But this has nothing to do with President Trump and his family, some of whom may or may not live with him at The White House. This is The Residence, Netflix’s latest murder mystery starring Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, the world’s greatest living detective and an avid birder. “It’s not a hard comedy but I really wanted to have fun with it,” creator Paul William Davies tells Deadline. In a wide-ranging interview ahead of the series’ premiere on Thursday, March 20, Davies explains how he got involved in the project, which is loosely inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House, how he figured out who the killer should be, why Detective Cupp is an avid birder and how the show dealt with the death of cast member Andre Braugher. >>> Read The Interview |
