Erling Haaland

So... how did you do? If you captained Erling Haaland, then chances are you clocked up a semi-decent Gameweek 21 score at the very least, with the Man City star hitting another hat-trick to take his Premier League tally for the season to 25. Yes, twenty-five goals.

Last week we teed up Dan Simmons' FPL team to follow this week, and - spoiler alert - he's happy he gave Haaland the captain's armband. Find out how he got on below in his own words...

How did Dan get on?

Gameweek 21 points

Overview

A very respectable gameweek overall: 82 points for a GW rank of 1,297,396th and a green arrow up to 36,105th in the overall standings. There are some improvements to be made for the coming gameweek, particularly considering four of my players blanked.

Goalkeeper and Defenders

Kepa Arrizabalaga (9 points) continues to be a fantastic FPL asset by keeping a clean sheet in a cagey match between Chelsea and Liverpool. Averaging 5.7 points per game since the restart, Kepa is the highest-scoring 'keeper in that period, even beating Newcastle's Nick Pope.

Newcastle once again delivered a clean sheet with Kieran Trippier (8 points) the stalwart of the team. Trippier now has 9 points per game since the restart making him one of the highest scoring players in the game. Sven Botman (6pts) also performed well and is just as consistent with at least 6 points in his last 6 games.

This week's disappointment comes from Ben White (0pts) who received an early yellow card and was subbed off at half-time of Arsenal vs Manchester United. It was a tough choice between White and Luke Shaw, but ultimately it didn't matter as both players received zero points. Shaw will be in my thoughts for GW22 though, as United have a double gameweek against Crystal Palace and Leeds.

Midfielders

A mixed bag in midfield and definitely the position that needs the most work. Gabriel Martinelli (2pts) blanked while his fellow winger Bukayo Saka scored a sensational goal. After three gameweeks without any attacking returns, it might be time to consider swapping Martinelli out.

Marcus Rashford (7pts) and Kevin De Bruyne (6pts) contributed with a goal and an assist respectively. Both players have upcoming double gameweeks, so I don't intend on transferring either out any time soon; though I am tempted by Bruno Fernandes in place of KDB just to capitalise on the extra game.

My plan for Miguel Almiron (3pts) was to sub him out for GW22 and his failure to score or assist against Palace certainly solidifies this for me. I'll be looking at how I might be able to get either Martin Odegaard from Arsenal (6.9m) or Kaoru Mitoma from Brighton (5.1m) in, depending on other transfers.

Forwards

Erling Haaland doing Haaland things by scoring his fourth hat-trick of the season proves why he is a must-have and why he is by far the most popular captain choice with 7.1m FPL managers handing him the armband.

Tottenham looked to be struggling against Fulham yesterday, but ever-reliable Harry Kane (6pts) managed to grab what was the winning goal. Kane has now scored 15 League goals this season, and is not someone I'm thinking about losing.

Ivan Toney (1pt) was the big disappointment up front: the most transferred player managed just 1 point in Brentford's game at Leeds. The better option here would have been Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah who scored two goals against Manchester United to score 13 points - so well done to anyone who picked him!
